Fifteen million consumers make up the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual,
Transgender and Two Spirit community in the United States, and
according to research conducted by Witeck-Combs, they tell us that the
purchasing power of the LGBT community is expected to be an astounding
$608 billion dollars in 2007.
In one of the most recent consumer research studies done by
Witeck-Combs Communications and Harris Interactive®, a national
cross-section of LGBT respondents signaled that they tend to prefer
popular product brands, indulge themselves, and seek product upgrades
in higher proportion than their non-gay counterparts.
A recent study conducted by the same company has shown that this
particular demographic is 89% brand –affiliated, meaning it’s most
likely or highly likely to actively seek out a brand that is advertised
in the gay media. People in the same demographic also stated they
prefer to purchase products from companies that provide financial
and/or in-kind support to nonprofit organizations serving the gay and
lesbian community over competing products from companies that do not.
With these facts in mind, we would like to propose a unique opportunity
to reach this dynamic population. On June 20th- 22nd 2008, Billings is
once again playing host to our Montana LGBT Pride Celebration. This
celebration is an annual fundraising event for the Montana Pride
Network, which is a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing
education, information and support to people throughout Montana. This
celebration takes place in order to honor our lesbian, gay, bisexual
and transgender families, friends and allies and will bring folks from
across the region to the Magic City. Last year’s celebration in
Billings was the first in 10 years, and it was huge success. We raised
over $30,000, and had several thousand people attend our two-day
event. This year we want to give more businesses the opportunity to
advertise their products to a plethora of “brand loyal” consumers.
